Yahoo to Go 2.0 hits the Blackberry

January 8 2007

I saw that Yahoo and RIM announced that they are bringing Yahoo! to Go to the Blackberry (as they hinted to last year). I had never checked this out ... but the on-line demo shows a very well designed application. It might be better than Yahoo! on the web. Things I found neat: A web search tool that might be the best I have seen ... including on the web! Integrated with your phone contacts directly Simple way to change your location Upload pictures taken on the phone to Flickr with a couple clicks Check out the demo here. I even got Nathan to admit he was impressed :D Only bad news is that the beta seems full .. I had to sign up. Hope I get in soon!

Get Perpendicular - School House Rock for 2005?

April 6 2005

Who out there remembers School House Rock? "Conjunction Junction" and "I'm Just a Bill" were my two favorite. Well, to educate the masses on their new Perpendicular Recording Hard Drive technology, Hitachi has created a cartoon. Get Perpendicular has that School House Rock feel. Watch and enjoy ... gave me my first good laugh of the morning!

Case Modding Goes ’Doom’

March 15 2005

For those of you not aware, one of the big things with the gaming community is to modify one's computer case. Called "case moding," people go to extremes to make their computer look like anything but a computer. One of the coolest ones I have seen is the Doom 3 case mod. Still in progress, the modder has a picture blog of his progress. Its a great read/view and interesting to see how it is done. I can not wait to see what it looks like in the end. Check it out here

Why does everyone think Tivo is dead?

March 14 2005

It seems that the hot smackdown on the techy websites now a days is the calling out of the death of Tivo. I am a huge Tivo fan. One of my favorite hardware inventions of the past 15 years. I can live my life on whatever schedule I want and still be able to catch television shows that I enjoy. Iron Chef (both the Japanese and US version), Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis), The West Wing, BattleStar Galactica (The new version), and the Monster Series (Monster House, Monster Garage, and American Chopper) all get taped every week. Love it. You can read some of the deathwatch talk here and a great rebuttal. Hopefully Tivo can stick it out. I like Tivo to Go and think they did a good job for a first implementation. I want it to work on my Mac, but I can wait. And for those of you who use other solutions other than Tivo ... tried them and no thanks. Tivo is PVR done right.

Star Wars Episode III - Its coming ...

March 1 2005

So for those of you that do not know, the final Star Wars movie is being releases in May. Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith will tie the story together, showing the turn of Anakin to the darkside and his transformation into Darth Vader. As with any Star Wars movie, this is not just a movie, but a cross media movement. One of the first things I have seen to be releases is the Lego lineup for 2005. I happen to be a Lego fan ... found memories of childhood. Check them out here. If you want to spoil the movie, goggle for the play-by-play images. Some interesting pictures out there. Sorry, no link ... do not want to get a call from George :)

February 22 2005

Mobile PC has released 'The Top 100 Gadgets of all time' List. I won't ruin the list of anyone, but #60 gave me a chuckle. #1 will surprise man, but not a bad choice. My personal favorite is #20 ... can never have enough of them! Did they miss anything?

Time for another review ... Blackberry 7100t Phone

February 21 2005

I started this review back on 11/12/04 ... been a while. I know other's have reviewed it, so I updated this to cover some new things. So I got myself a new toy ... my first phone that is more than just a phone! I had wanted a Blackberry device for years, but this new 7100t got my attention with the things that were missing from previous versions: Bluetooth, smaller size like a phone, and Color. I am a sucker for gadgets. I have had 5 Palms and really like a productivity tool. I just never had found a phone / handheld combo that I liked before. With PSC's move to embrace Blackberry technology across the board, it seemed like a good time to take the plunge. I am not going to cover the things that you can get on the RIM site and out of reviews. Here is my like and dislike lists: Likes Email, calendar, tasks, address book all sync with Domino. Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) gives us full synching of these Browser access on a phone that works pretty wel

Paint.NET - a GIMP for the Windows crowd

December 22 2004

I am not a graphics person. Yes, I use a mac, but my graphic skills are very weak. Usually, Paint Shop Pro does all I need to create graphics and the rare graphic for an application. On my mac, I have used GIMP because it was free and Photoshop just seemed like overkill for my skill vs the price. Today, /. posted a story about Washington State University releasing a free raster-graphics editor like GIMP, but based on the .Net framework. I downloaded and played .. and it seems to work great! A nice user interface ... now, its not PSP, but its great if you need to touch up a graphic and don't want to pay 100 bucks. Try it out. And for all those graphic heavies out there ... yes I know that GIMP is much more than a picture editor ... but it is all I use it for. So please be gentle :) Note: Site has be slashdotted ... give the download time.

Drop out of High School, Turn Hobby into Millions ...

December 20 2004

I found this on /., and found it interesting. In a world of millions and billions of dollars being put into research and development of everything, nice to see someone with passion and an idea can still make it big. And yes, it is cool that it is a game machine in the joystick! :) My interest in this story will be more apparent when I post some news later today ...

Tivo To Go Coming .... FINALLY!

January 9 2004

Well, its about time. Tivo has finally annouced that they are working on the ability to watch your tivo recordings on a computer and take them with you via DVD burn. How TiVoToGo Works Accessing TiVoToGo requires a TiVo Content Security Key and TiVo-enabled versions of the Sonic Solution (NASDAQ: SNIC) MyDVD and CinePlayer(TM) applications. Sonic Solutions, the leader in DVD creation software, has teamed with TiVo to develop TiVo-enabled versions of Sonic's MyDVD and CinePlayer applications. Once this software is installed on the PC, the new TiVo-enabled MyDVD and CinePlayer software from Sonic will make it easy to find the Now Playing programs on any networked TiVo DVR in the home. Once selected, the secure and encrypted TiVo recorded programs are moved to the PC, where the TiVo Content Security Key is used to unlock the files for playback or burning, preventing files from being shared online, outside of the user's home network. The TiVo Content Security K

Just a follow-up from this weekend ...

September 29 2003

I am not going to do a big post today, as I am out at a client fighting with Domino.Doc and Notes/Domino 6 today. But I wanted to add that I got a new cell phone to go along with my new palm, the Siemens S56. This is my first GSM phone, but I got it because it has Bluetooth. So not only does it sync with my Power Book via iSync, it works with the Palm so the T3 can go on-line. And flawlessly I must add. Add in a Jabra Bluetooth headset, and I am all geeked out. I will go into detail on all of this in my review on Thursday. I will be back tomorrow with the Tuesday feature of New Media Tuesday and some news about some Mail Merge examples!
