World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade - The Black Temple - Patch 2.1.0 is out!

May 22 2007

The first big content patch for World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade is out! The Black Template Patch - 2.1.0 is Live! Lots and lots of content: The Black Temple patch comprises an astounding array of new content and features, making it the single largest addition to World of Warcraft of any patch to date. The most visible of these new offerings is the eponymous Black Temple, home to Illidan the Betrayer and his minions. The foes within its walls offer a new pinnacle of challenges - and rewards - to dedicated 25-person raid groups. This patch also includes a host of solo and small-group content, with several new quest hubs and associated reputations, each with their own rewards - one of which is the new Netherdrake epic flying mount! In the Black Temple patch you will also find a new arena, Ruins of Lordaeron, as well as access to the new druid epic flight form. Hundreds of balance and bug fixes, including class, item, and profession changes, have also been introduced with the p

30 years of a galaxy far far away ...

May 22 2007

It is hard to believe, but the movie that changed everything is 30 years old this week. Star Wars (well, to use the official name now Star Wars Episode 4 - A New Hope) is more than one movie. It is a saga. A movement. A mark on the culture of today. Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw in the theater. My dad took me ... and I believe I had to make him stay so we could see it again because I needed to leave to use the rest-room the first time. I was 2.5 ... give me a break :-). For someone who is almost 33, I do not remember a time without Star Wars. I remember my dad letting me stay home so we could see the first showing of Return of the Jedi. Going opening night to see the 20th Anniversary Edition of Star Wars. Waiting for hours and hours to just get tickets for The Phantom Menace. Watching Star Wars on On TV .. the first time it was on TV .. with my friend Tommy and his family the Bennetts and my dad buying one of the first VCRs available. The Star Wars Holiday Special. ILUG 2007 Presentation - the Lotus Geek Version

May 21 2007

I would like to take a moment and thank Rocky Oliver, our communities Lotus Geek, for stepping in to present my session on Friday afternoon at ILUG2007. Rocky and I have co presented on this subject a couple times. If I could ask for anyone to fill in my shoes, Rock is the man. Due to a couple of limitations (like the version of Microsoft Office he has installed), he will not be showing two of the demos in the presentation. The Microsoft Project and XML and Excel demos will be skipped. What I will do for those users is to write blog articles about each one after the Lotus Developer 2007 seminar. This way you will still get the info. If anyone is at the session, please make sure to pass that information along. Also, on Friday I will post the slides and demo file. Thanks again Rocky ... I owe you one!

Starcraft2: Hell, its about time

May 19 2007

Blizzard announced a new game today, and as many predicted, it is Starcraft2. One of the most popular computer games of all time (it has sold over 9 million copies, with 4 million of those in Korea alone), many fans have been awaiting this game for a long time. I know that I still play the game and the expansion, Brood War, with friends on-line. One of the first games to take Real-Time Strategy and mix a complex story and 3 different races to play, Starcraft2 looks to continue in the vein. From what I can read, this does not look like a revolution but a continuation. No mixture of Massive On-line play like World of Warcraft. This is a continuation of the story and themes. Don't get me wrong, that's amazing ... I just thought Blizzard would use some of that WoW money to innovate. It looks amazing. Check it out at the Starcraft2 home page.

Bad News - No ILUG for me

May 18 2007

Well, the news is leaking, so I figured I better announce this myself. I will not be attending ILUG2007 next week as planned. A family member is going to need surgery next week that can not wait. Today was spent at the doctors ... dealing with insurance and all that stuff. The surgery is serious but not an emergency, so it has to be scheduled. It can also not wait until I get back. As much as this trip was something I wanted to do, family comes first. I was really looking forward to ILUG ... my first trip to Ireland and I was also going to Malta to visit the Integra folks for some hands-on training. :( :( :( There is always ILUG 2008. The good news is that it looks like my presentation is going to happen. For once, I was prepared and had my slides and demo done. We are going to go over things this weekend and I will let you all know Monday. Special thanks to Paul and John and Denis of Integra for understanding. I hope everyone has fun next week!

Glimpses into the future of Office Development

May 10 2007

I got this from Eric Carter's .NET4Office blog. Watch the video here to see some of what is coming with the new release of Visual Studio.NET (codenamed "Orcas") and what Visual Studio Tools for Office will be like once it is built into the IDE. Cool stuff in the future for all of us Office developers.

Integra for Notes - Some great demos!

May 7 2007

The folks over at Integra have put together some great demos on how Integra for Notes works and what you can do with the product. I get asked quite often about the capabilities of the product and why did I and PSC pick to endorse and sell Integra. These give just a glimpse into the decision If you see me speak at ILUG or Lotus Developer 2007, those reasons will become more obvious. I plan on blogging about Integra much more as we get closer to those events. For now, enjoy these demos: Short Demo End-User perspective. What did you do this weekend? I drank Beer

May 6 2007

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Anyone do anything fun? Sarah and I went to BeerFest 2007 Chicago. Picture this ... a big convention space with over 40 beer makers and distributors servering great beer with a band and lots of people. Like a couple thousand. We had a blast. Sleeping until 10 AM is a great way to start Sunday!

Travels and Projects

May 3 2007

By looking at the location, you should see that I am not in Chicago. Some thoughts about my trip: This is my first time in New York City proper in many years ... this city just drips of energy I had a chance to walk up Madison Ave and down Park Ave ... I never had done that and always wanted to. Lots of window shopping :-) Can you believe how small a world it is? Walking up Madison Ave, out steps Jamie Maggie from a cab. He was going to meet a client. We chatted a bit about life, Lotus Developer 2007 / Admin 2007 and Advisor. Good to see you Jamie! I am starting a new project here in NYC. I expect to have more PSC folks joining me. This one should be fun ... lots of fun and fancy Domino web stuff This project is a direct result of the hosting that PSC does for IBM blogs. I am sure Ed loves to hear about that! People who only see me at conferences would be as surprised as Jamie was today ... I am really Mr Suit outside of the speaking circuit The weather is beautiful! I need to blog m

Here is what the game looks like: I can not wait to play this. I hope it does well ... I would love to see some of the expansions added in the future. Here comes on-line play and some achievements! You can purchase it for 800 XBox points ($10). Here is a great interview with BHG as well.

Microsoft Visual Studio Marketing - Defy All Challenges

May 1 2007

Microsoft has put together a great site called Defy All Challenges. It is a Microsoft Visual Studio site, covering Vista, 2007 Office System, Web Development, and the Visual Studio Team System. But what makes it unique is that the whole site is based around games. You will find famous Microsoft game properties (both for the PC and XBOX/360) including the most famous, Halo. Lots of videos, information, and even your own machinima tool. Well worth a check out. Source: Denis @ Integra
