A new gadget added to the arsenal - Tungsten T3

September 28 2003

I have been a Palm user for a long time, and have enjoyed my m515 for almost 18 months. It was small, had 32 megs of ram, and allowed me to use programs such as DateBk5. I am not one who likes a handheld and a phone all built into one, so the stand-alone Palm units are just what I want. And if I am going to be someplace that has Wifi, I will just pull out my PowerBook. So I have not purchased the Tungsten or Tungsten2 when they came out, due to many reasons. Not enough ram, not the screen I want, etc. But mostly because I was waiting for that killer release. The Tungsten T3 is that.

64 Megs of ram, Bluetooth, Virtual Graffiti area, 320x480 screen that goes landscape, voice recording, Palm OS5 device, and a 400 Mhz Intel Xscale processor. My Perfect Handheld.

Now what is so unusual of this posting is that I got mine today. I found it at a local retail store in the Chicago burbs. I am not gonna name names, because the store should not have been selling the T3. It has not been released yet, supposedly that is Oct 1st. Volker was impressed with it, and Mike was told he couldn't buy one yet.

Mac support right out of the box and so far, everything synched perfectly. Some screenshots for you:

This is the T3 box. On my floor to take the picture.

This is the T3 box on my desk. That's a m500 series hardcase under it, with my Power Book, Apple Professional Keyboard, iCurve, and an Iomega 500 meg Zip Drive.
For proof that I have this at home :)

The T3 in the Cradle. I put it in there at 6:30 PM CDT to start the charge process. You can see DinoHub in the background :D

I clicked the Calendar button and then hid the Input Area, or as I like to call it, the Virtual Graffiti area.
You can see the toolbar at the bottom: home, find, menu, time, alert, Bluetooth, Full screen writing, Orientation switch, and Input Area collapse/expand (left to right).
And Yes, I know the Bears game is Monday night ... The iCal calendar subscription is off.
The moon phases, policits, business, and Lord of the Rings dates are all iCal calendar subscriptions which I will talk about at a later date.

The T3 sideways with landscape mode on. That is SilverScreen, a launcher. Notice the Virtual Graffiti area.

I plan on making this the subject of my Thursday This week in review ... topic.
