Lunaris kills C’Thun

May 24 2006

While working my butt off the past couple months, my free time has been taken up by a couple of things. As I need a destresser, WoW and exercise are the two things that help me relax.

Lunaris has been working at the final boss for Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, the latest 40 man raid. C'Thun, one of the old gods beat down by the Titans, provides a very difficult challenge. There are two stages to the fight. The first stage has the boss as a giant eye. The raid has to spread out around him. It is not a traditional fight. Each group of 5 players has to be self sufficient. You can not stand within 5 game feet or a chain lightning effect will destroy the party. You can not be too far apart as you still need to heal and deal with the 8 eye stalk spawns. Every 45 seconds or so the Eye puts out a red laser been that sweeps clockwise or counter clockwise. The entire raid has to move, in the 5 man groups, and position themselves properly. This is not a fight about tanking or healing, its a fight about 40 people being precise.

Once the Eye is killed, out comes the body of C'Thun. This stage is about control. Large stalks spawn that have to be dealt with. Players are summoned into the body. Damage to the body is only done after the integral organs are taken care of.

This is a great fight, but it takes a lot of time to get down. One simple mistake by one person wipes it for everyone. Add in a 5 minute run to the boss after each wipe and it can be frustrating.

Congrats to the folks in Lunaris. Server first and one of the first 40 guilds to take him down. On to Viscisdus and Naxxaramas!

    How long did this take?

It took us about 15 evenings just on this encounter ... figure 4 hours a night. It really takes a long time to learn the patterns and get your level of movement down
