Personal Thanks to Mr Langhinrichs

December 12 2007

I wanted to use this blog entry to personally thank Ben Langhinrichs of Genii Software for his help the past couple weeks. I have been working on a project that required the following:

1. Export a collection of Notes documents, which include Notes Rich Text fields, to a XML file. The XML file will contain HTML of the Notes Rich Text field ... that works in Access 2007 (folks, HTML support in Access 2007 is so bad ... I can not even mention it).
2. Import a XML file, that came from Access 2007, and loop thru is and update existing Notes documents. Oh yeah, and convert the Access HTML back into Notes Rich Text.
3. Export a collection of Notes documents, which include Notes Rich Text fields, to an Excel file .. where the Notes Rich Text becomes RTF.
4.These same Notes documents ... let people create and edit them on the web. With a specific font, font size, and other font attributes like bold ... oh, and 4 of those on each Notes document.

Now, normally this would be a nightmare. Charles wondered where I have been lately ... now you know Charles. I have been in a living hell. :-) Using Midas and CoexEdit, I have gotten all four things to work. And work well. Ben has been instrumental in helping me. Adding (or exposing) features in both products. Writing documentation for how stuff works. Sometimes just putting up with me to help me work thru the issues.

I know that I am a paying customer of Ben here (well, for my customer), but he has gone out of his way to help.

Ben, thank you so much. You have helped me solve some very large problems and make some people very happy. I owe you at least one milk shake this year at Lotusphere. Hopefully all of this work will turn out to a great announcement at Lotusphere between you and our respective friends oversees!
